My HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One printer is displaying a persistent "Document Feeder Jam" error despite no actual paper jam being present. This error message prevents me from scanning or accessing the printer's touch panel. While printing still functions, other essential features are unavailable.
The printer indicates a jam in the top document feeder, displaying an animation demonstrating its removal. I've thoroughly inspected the entire printer, but found no signs of a jam. I attempted to resolve the issue by cleaning suspected sensors and rollers with compressed air and alcohol wipes, I've also followed all available troubleshooting guides, but the error persists.

Hi @c0lumbin3,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting a persistent "Document Feeder Jam" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 can be caused by faulty sensors, debris in the ADF mechanism, or firmware issues. Since you've already inspected and cleaned the ADF thoroughly, here are some additional steps to resolve the issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 2-3 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the error persists.
2. Clean the ADF Sensors
- Open the ADF cover and inspect for any dust or debris around the paper sensors.
- Clean the sensors using a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Pay close attention to:
- Small black squares or rectangles that may be near the rollers (these are the sensors).
- The ADF input tray area.
- Avoid using compressed air too close to the sensors, as it could displace sensitive components.
3. Check the ADF Mechanism
- Ensure the rollers and separator pads are free from wear or residue.
- Rotate the rollers manually to ensure they move freely.
- Remove the ADF tray and reattach it securely to ensure proper alignment.
4. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Outdated firmware can sometimes cause false error messages.
- Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.
- Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
5. Perform a Factory Reset
- Access the printer's hidden service menu:
- Tap the Home button on the printer's touchscreen.
- Tap the Back button four times to open the Support Menu.
- Look for an option like Reset Menu or Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the printer.
6. Bypass the ADF for Scanning
- If the error persists, use the flatbed scanner as a temporary workaround:
- Open the scanner lid and place your document on the flatbed.
- Initiate scanning from the HP Smart app or your computer.
7. Inspect for Hardware Defects
- If the issue is still unresolved, the ADF sensors or internal mechanism may be faulty. Contact HP Support to inquire about repair or replacement options.
