Hi all,

I purchased the HP Smart Tank 6001 All-In-One back in Sep 2024.  I kept having issues with error code E3-Print cartridge ja or printhead cover not closed.  It took me awhile to finally get someone to talk to at HP and the figured out the issue and sent me a new printhead in June.  The printer work for about 2 weeks and did the same thing.  Does anyone known how I can get a phone number to talk to HP.  The website shows the my warranty expired and the old option it gives is for me to buy an extended warranty.

Hi @LAGordon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error code E3, typically indicating that the print cartridge jam or the printhead cover is not closed, can be quite frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Steps to Troubleshoot Error Code E3

  1. Check the Printhead Cover:
    • Make sure the printhead access cover is securely closed. Sometimes, it might appear closed, but it isn’t latched properly.

  2. Inspect for Paper Jams:
    • Turn off the printer and check for any paper jams inside the printer, especially around the printhead carriage and rollers. Remove any obstructions carefully.

  3. Reinstall the Printhead:
    • Open the printhead access area and gently remove the printhead. Reinstall it, ensuring it is seated properly.
    • Close the cover and check if the issue persists.

  4. Update Printer Firmware:
  5. Reset the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, then plug it back in and power it on.

  6. Check HP Support:
    • Since you already received a replacement printhead and still face the problem, contact HP Support again to report the repeated issue. They might provide a different solution or replace other components if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
