HP OfficeJet Pro 8715
macOS 10.15 Catalina

My HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 works great except for an issue where the first side of the first page of a document it prints tends to come "off-register." It occurs randomly, IIRC no more than once a day.

The best way I can describe the problem is thus: It is as if the printer prints the same line twice, once where it is supposed to be and once shifted horizontally either to the left or right (approximately the width of 1-3 characters on a 12-point font). The page comes out a jumbled mess. It occurs only on the first side of the first sheet that is printed of a document. For example, on a two-sided document that prints back-to-front, it would be the second side of the last page.

How can I stop this from happening. The printer has the latest firmware, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HP drivers (HP Smart) multiple times. The problem occurs with any software (MS Word, Preview, Adobe PDF, etc.). This has been going on since I first purchased the printer, over a year ago.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi @CuervoWins

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you

Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support. We appreciate your patience.

To better assist you-

1) Does the copy print out the same way?

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?

Please print a printer status report ad share it.

.1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch ( Setup ).

2. Touch Reports.

3. Select a printer report to print..

If copy and the reports prints fine then let's add your printer with airprint driver

Try the steps below -

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
