Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I purchased an ENVY pro 6455. I have been working four days setting up. I am striving for a strictly USB cable to communicate with printer. I have yet to get a text file to print.  My computer displays announcement that the job was transmitted to printer but the printer remains inactive.

Edge lighting displays purple bar starting in center and moving to edges--the last item on page 8 of manual, the first item of edge lighting section.  I can turn the control panel wi-fi light  on with( i-X-arrow). The wi-fi light comes on.  I can press the same combination again to cause the wi-fi light to go off.  The edge lighting goes stationary with white in middle and blue edges-----this is the state in which I suppose I need to have to print. However, no printing happens.

I have reset the printer with the buttons on back--both resets. And I have dis-installed what the HP Easy start has installed. I have done this three times.  The last time I used the manual install option and have specified the USB cable only option.

What else need I try, please?

Hi @David-_,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to print via USB setup.

To assist better-

  • Are you able to make copies?
  • What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?

Try the below suggestions -

Download the HP Smart app, and then follow the instructions to set up a USB connection in Windows.

  1. If you already connected the printer USB cable to your computer, disconnect it, and then remove the printer from your computer.

Search for and open Printers & scanners, and then select the name of your printer from the list. Click Remove device, click Yes, and then restart the computer.

  2. Make sure an open USB port is available on your computer. Do not connect the printer to a USB hub or docking station as the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  3. Go to HP Smart - Microsoft Store and install the HP Smart app.

  4. Open the app, and then follow the guided installation to complete the setup. If the setup does not begin automatically, click the Plus sign to add your printer

Set up a USB printer connection with a built-in driver (Windows)

When you connect the printer USB cable, Windows automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.

  1. Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  2. Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.

    • If a 'Found new hardware' message displays, follow any prompts to install the driver, and then send a print job to confirm the connection.

    • If the printer connection or print job fails, continue with these steps.

  3. Search for and open Printers & scanners.

  4. Click Add a printer or scanner.

    • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Add device, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.

    • If you printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

  5. Click The printer that I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

  6. Click Next, select Use an existing port, select (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB) from the drop-down menu, and then click Next.

  7. If prompted, click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to finish updating.

  8. Under Manufacturer, select HP or Hewlett Packard, and then select the name of your printer.

Selecting HP under Manufacturer, and then selecting your printer name

  9. Click Next, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.

  10. Disconnect then reconnect the USB cable to complete the printer setup.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
