I have an old F 380 printer. I bought a new black ink recently (genuine HP) and orange flashing light and E symbol appeared.

I have tried all the troubleshooting tips, but still can't get it to work. Can anyone help please? I really don't want to have to buy a new printer.

Hi @Luskentyre44,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing orange light and the "E" symbol on your HP Deskjet F380 All-In-One printer often indicate an error or problem with the device. Since you've already tried some troubleshooting tips, here are some additional steps you can take to potentially resolve the issue.

Check for Paper Jams: Sometimes, a paper jam can trigger error lights. Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer. Open the printer cover and check for any obstructions.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for a few minutes and then plug it back in.
  • Turn the printer on and see if the error persists.

Check Ink Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly installed. Open the printer cover and inspect the cartridge to make sure it's securely in place.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinstall the cartridge and turn the printer back on.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve issues. Visit the HP support website and check if there are any available firmware updates for your printer.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for a few minutes.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the power source.
  • Turn the printer on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
