Smart Tank 790
Ubuntu LTS

Dear Support and community,

I need your help. I purchased a new Smart Tank 790 printer. It is working however following the initial setup (including setting up WiFi connection, LAN and printhead alignment) there is a message which is stuck on the front panel and cannot be removed.

The message reads

"The HP software is setting up your printer..."

The message does not allow me to interact with the printer directly but only through a PC or the HP Smart App on my phone. I can print and scan from both Windows and Ubuntu systems (For the Ubuntu I have installed HPLIP). I can configure the device using HP Smart or using the web interface (by entering the IP of the printer).

I have tried:

1. Disconnecting power source over and over in many conditions. Still the same message after turning on and passing the initialization phase.

2.  Pressing the power button for 30 seconds while it is Off, while it is On and during powering on. The only thing changing is that when I press the ON button while plugging in the power cord, I see a screen with "Back" arrow and "Cancel" mark. Nothing that I can do with that.

3. I pressed the button in the back side of the printer (close to the power cord connection) for 5 seconds. The printer says "Busy. Please wait..." The message doesn't disappear even after 1 hour.

4. I have tried to initiate "Power cycle" through the settings web interface. I have tried to initiate "Restore Factory defaults" through the settings web interface. I have tried to initiate "Restore Network to default" using the settings web interface. In all cases the procedure is not starting since the interface is saying that the printer is busy.

I probably need to hard reset the printer in some way and initiate again the new setup procedure however I cannot find this procedure anywhere or a solution to the problem.

From searching the forum I saw that HP technicians are sending private messages on how to reset the printer. Please help !

With kind regards,

Nimi
