Hi @JZ0,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x00829c98 HW WATCHDOG C is related to hardware watchdog timers, which are mechanisms used to detect and recover from computer malfunctions. This specific error code indicates a hardware watchdog timeout, meaning that a hardware component or process took too long and triggered a timeout. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and address this issue:

1. Restart Your Computer

  • Basic Restart: Sometimes, simply restarting the computer can clear transient issues. Power off the computer completely, wait for about 30 seconds, then power it back on.

2. Check for Overheating

  • Cooling System: Ensure that the cooling system (fans, vents) is clean and functioning properly. Overheating can cause hardware components to malfunction.
  • Clean Vents: If your computer has dust buildup in the vents, use compressed air to clean it out.

3. Update System BIOS/UEFI

  • Check for Updates: Visit the manufacturer’s website and check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your system. Updating the BIOS can resolve compatibility and hardware issues.

4. Update Device Drivers

  • Drivers: Ensure that all device drivers are up to date. This includes drivers for graphics cards, chipsets, and other hardware components.
  • Device Manager: Go to Device Manager on Windows (search in the Start menu), right-click on each device, and select Update Driver.

5. Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Built-in Diagnostics: Many computers come with built-in diagnostic tools. Restart your computer and press the diagnostic key (often F2, F12, or Esc depending on the manufacturer) to run hardware diagnostics.

6. Check for Software Issues

  • Recent Changes: If the error started appearing after installing new software or updates, consider uninstalling or rolling back those changes.
  • Safe Mode: Boot into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, the problem may be related to software or drivers installed in normal mode.

7.  System Restore

  • Restore Point: If the issue began recently, you can try restoring your system to a previous state using System Restore:
    • Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore, and follow the prompts to select a restore point.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Rachael for your quick response.

My error code is for HP Envy 5070 printer and there are a few computers connected to the printer (wireless). Do you mean to restart all the computers?

Could you please check with all the devices:)

It has nothing to do with other computers. The error code is for HP Envy 5070 printer. All other computers are shutdown. Please send me how to reset the printer. I cannot shut down the printer after the error code. I have to unplug power supply from the wall.

Hi @JZ0,

Thank you for your response, To perform a factory reset on the HP Envy 5070 printer, follow these steps:

Power On the Printer: Make sure the printer is turned on. If it's not, press the power button to turn it on.

Access the Control Panel: On the printer's control panel, locate the "Setup" button, which typically looks like a wrench or gear icon.

Navigate to the Printer Maintenance Menu:

  • Press the "Setup" button.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Printer Maintenance" or a similar option, depending on your model.

Select Restore Defaults:

  • Within the Printer Maintenance menu, look for an option that says "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Reset".
  • Select this option.

Confirm the Reset: You may be prompted to confirm that you want to restore the factory settings. Confirm your choice by selecting "Yes" or "OK".

Wait for the Process to Complete: The printer will take a few moments to complete the reset process. It will restart, and the factory settings will be restored.

Take care and have a good day.

Whenever I power on the printer, there is beep sound and then the error message comes before I can reset the printer. None of the bottons works (including power button) after the error message shows up. I have to unplug the power supply to shutdown the printer. Any resolution? I already saw many of the same question posted in the HP Community. But I couldn't find a resolution.

It sees no way to resolve this issue. I have recycled this HP Envy 5070 printer (looks new) to nearby Bestbuy.
