I have had a Photosmart C7280 printer for many years without any issues.
When I installed new HP363 Black (changed at shop) and Magenta inks recently, the printer initially says they are Genuine HP cartridges showing as 100% full. However, within a few hours, they have shown as empty (black ink) or nearly empty (magenta). I went back to the shop to get the blank cartridge changed and the replacement has been okay. When the ink level dropped for the magenta cartridge, I immediately printed the Diagnostic Page which was showing its level as 37% (after no printing) and Expiration Date as 8/20/2019 (this matches the Ireland Feb 2019 on the packaging)
I get the impression this is due to the coding used within the printer which is confirmed by posts on the Internet. There must be some way to get the printer to go back to the cartridge to check the ACTUAL ink level (what is chip used for otherwise?) rather than the calculated level. HOW? Or can I override the "Low Ink" message which keeps appearing when I start up the printer.
As the cartridges are not cheap, this is getting expensive especially as I want to copy lots of documentation soon.

Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet and wait 30 seconds.
-
Plug the power adapter back into the wall outlet.
-
Plug the power cord to the back of the HP All-in-One.

I initially tried the 'power reset' which did not fix my problem. I then tried switching off then on again whilst holding down the #6 and #9 keys as suggested by on-line blogs. This also did not work but did set my printer back to factory settings!
Finally, I purchased another Genuine HP 363 Magenta cartridge which has been showing as 100% full for the past two days. So my problem has gone away but my original questions have not been answered. And I have paid approx 10 UK pounds for unused ink in the previous magenta cartridge assuming it was full. As I said in the initial description of my problem, I have now installed two HP Genuine ink cartridges which have failed. Or is there a bug in the printer firmware?

I continue to get error message indicating that new ink cartridges are empty - specifically, magenta, blue and black. Could the contacts be smudged in some way and how would I clean them if that is the problem. I've gone through various trouble shooting scenarios (unplugging, restarting, etc. Even re-downloaded driver. OR must I return them and and get new ones - bought the multipack as old cartridges were out of date and needed to replace all.
Can you offer some hints?
