I've replaced a depleted Cyan cartridge with a brand new one. Printer recognizes the cartridge as original and as being full, but then gives me the message "There is a problem with the supply system" and won't allow me to print.

I've tried switching back and forth with the old cartridge, this triggers a new verification but the end result is always the same.

New cartridge is under warranty until 2025/06 so it should be good.

Please advise

Hi @bubblept,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The message "There is a problem with the supply system" on your HP printer, even with a new genuine cartridge, suggests there might be an issue with how the printer is recognizing or handling the new cartridge. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Remove and Reinstall Cartridge:

  • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
  • Remove the new cyan cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging that might not have been removed.
  • Reinstall the cartridge firmly and correctly into its slot.

Ensure Proper Alignment:

  • Make sure the cartridge is seated properly and clicks into place. A misaligned cartridge can trigger errors.

2. Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Cartridge Contacts: Gently wipe the metal contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the ink nozzles or using any liquids.
  • Printer Contacts: Check the cartridge slot inside the printer for any dirt or obstruction. Clean the contacts gently if needed.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Look inside the printer for any debris or foreign objects that might obstruct the cartridge.

3. Reset the Printer

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • For some printers, you can perform a hard reset by holding down the power button for 15-30 seconds.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Download Latest Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website and look for firmware updates for your printer model.

Install Firmware Update:

  • Follow the instructions to download and install the latest firmware. This can sometimes resolve compatibility or recognition issues with cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

We have this problem with our OfficeJetPro 9025, found this solution, followed all the steps, got down to the download firmware update and apply step, and it won't apply. It insists that the printer is "busy" and my only clickable options are "refresh," which just gets me back where I started, and "cancel."

SAME PROBLEM but I can’t access the screen because it is locked on “supply system problem.."

Any other ideas? Do I need a new print head?
