I've just set up a new router as the previous one was on its last legs. The new router is a 2.4 + 5 GHz dual band and is working flawlessly with everything except the printer. I've gone through online manuals and several similar community support forums with no success. Please note that my Mac has no CD ROM drive. Help!

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
What's the make and model of your WiFi router?
Do you have any antivirus software installed on your Mac?
Do you have a guest network enabled on your WiFi router?
Approximately how far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
Make sure your network is working correctly and that the printer is ready for the network setup.
If you are using a wireless router, check your router's documentation or support site to make sure it meets the following requirements:
- Check the router band: Many routers can operate in both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands, but not all HP printers support both bands. Make sure the 2.4 GHz router band is enabled and broadcasting. If the router broadcasts separate network names (SSIDs) for each band, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz band SSID.
- Bonjour support: HP recommends routers that support Bonjour, Apple's network discovery software. Connecting with Bonjour is the best way to find the printer and support wireless printing.
Could you check for WiFi interference and also perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results. Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by touching the wireless icon on the printer display.
update the printer firmware and Mac software:
Add the printer
Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.
-
Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.
-
Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.
-
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button
to delete it.
-
Click the Add button
.
-
Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
note:
If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

-
Click Print Using or Use.
-
Select the name of your printer.
Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status
.

Try printing again.
Keep me posted, hope this works for you.

Thank you for the information, and my apologies for the delay responding. I had a heavy workload and since I don't need the printer for much this troubleshooting got shelved for awhile.
As for the details you requested:
• WiFi router is Linksys, Model EA6350
• No antivirus
• There is a guest network enabled, apparently by default
• Printer and router are about 24" apart – on opposite ends of the same desk
Both frequency bands on the router are enabled and broadcasting. I'm not finding any info regarding Bonjour support so I've submitted an inquiry to the manufacturer.
I haven't been able to perform a ping test. The printer has a wireless button (as opposed to an icon on a screen display). It does not have the capability to display the IP address on the screen. Since all our other devices throughout the house have connected to the router flawlessly and the printer is close to it, I don't think interference is an issue.
According to the Software Update app, all my software is up to date
I have removed the printer from the queue, and as you can see, there are no printers listed.
I've gone to various pages on HP's website and have not been able to locate any driver at all for this printer, much less an update.
I'm getting nowhere fast. Hoping you'll be able to provide some more insight with this additional information.

It looks like you were interacting with @Raj1788, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.
HP Photosmart C4599 printer is only compatible with 2.4GHz network. Please connect Mac and printer to 2.4Ghz network and then try to print. You may use the steps available here to connect the printer to 2.4GHz wireless network.
