HP Officejet 8720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Everyone.

I recently purchased the HP 8720 and while most things print perfectly, I've been having issues with any sort of glossy paper. I've tried glossy photo paper, glossy stickers, glossy vinyl. clear stickers (Silhouette Brand), Gold Stickers (Silhouette Brand) Glossy Printable magnets and they all end up the same way. It looks like there are dropplets of ink on top of the paper rather than printing a solid color image.

I've tried every possible printer drawer setting with every possible printer setting on the computer using draft, normal and best quality.

I thought maybe it was the ink that came with the printer being outdated or having an error. I changed the cartridges with the instant ink received in the mail, and it still does the exact same thing.

I am able to print matte stickers, vinyl, photo paper, card stock etc and the quality is perfect.....well perfect after I found the right combination of settings because it wasn't as easy as setting it to matte photo paper on the printer tray as well as the printing settings on the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I speficially purchased this printer to print amazing color on items that could be cut by the Silhouette (clear stickers, foil stickers, glossy photo quality magnets, glossy white stickers, opaque heat transfer paper etc.)

Thanks much!

Christina

Hi @jaysdemmmy

When ink is not absorbing it's usually a settings issue. Does regular paper using regular settings work properly?

If you have selected a variety of 'paper type' and 'quality settings' and it's still leaving ink on top of the paper, it could simply be that you aren't feeding it glossy side down to print on the correct side.

So read and read and read about the HP8710 and glossy printer paper not loading.  Tried every solution and every trick.  Trying to contact HP customer support is an abolsute joke.  There are more complaints about HP printers not printing on photo paper than I could have imagined, not to much the complaints about HP customer support.   CONCLUSION:   DO NOT BUY AN HP PRINTER.  I'm taking my back to Staples today.  If they don't accept it -- I'm going to come home run over the printer with my truck and send it back to HP with a note that says, "This is what your products are worth to me".    I will never own another HP product as long as I live.
