HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw

Just purchased this week, replaced one of exactly the same model. Only happens when printing labels (my main purpose for having this) works fine with regular paper but has a problem with glossy label paper. Starts printing and about halfway through the page it goes into cleaning mode and jams. I took this paper out of the last printer and put it in the new one (again same model that has been fine with this paper without adjusting printer settings). I already uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, tried changing defaults for glossy paper (both on the computer and the printer), and done a hard reset.

Update: I purchased two NIB at the same time, got sick of trying to get the first one to work, and the other one is doing the same exact thing.

Hi @sewvacman,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've done a thorough job troubleshooting so far. Given that both printers are showing the same issue, this might point to a common factor, potentially related to the specific type of label paper you're using or a shared setup issue.

Here are a few additional things you might try:

  • Check Paper Specifications: Verify that the glossy label paper meets the printer's specifications. Sometimes, label paper with a particular coating or weight can cause issues. Refer to the printer's manual for paper types and weights that are recommended.
  • Adjust Paper Type Settings: Ensure that you've set the paper type to "Glossy" or "Labels" in both the printer settings and the print driver settings on your computer. Sometimes, setting the paper type to "Heavy Paper" or "Glossy Photo Paper" can help with handling issues.
  • Paper Path and Handling: Inspect the paper path and rollers for any obstructions or debris. Paper jams can sometimes be due to foreign objects or even slight misalignments in the paper path.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model. Sometimes, issues like this can be resolved with a firmware update that improves handling or adds better support for various media types. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Test Different Label Paper: Try using a different brand or type of glossy label paper to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the paper you're using.
  • Print a Diagnostic Page: Some printers have a built-in diagnostic or test page feature. Printing one might help identify any underlying issues or settings problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
