Help please .

At work we have a printer HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 and someone has seemed to have disactivated the Network card and they seem to have put an Admin password on the printer.

How do I do a hard reset on a 8710 ? I saw all the other replies were in DM's . Also where can I set our own Admin password so that future settings aren't tampered with and so this printer can no lonfer be usurped .

ETA : I reset the factory settings but the Ethernet option is still grayed out

Thanks - Jim

@Jim-_-, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since the network card is disabled and there’s an admin password set, a standard factory reset won’t suffice. You’ll need to perform an NVRAM reset (Full Reset) to restore all settings, including network functions.

Step 1: Perform a Full NVRAM Reset on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710

This reset will erase everything, including admin passwords and network settings.

1. Access the Reset Menu

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the Back (↩) and Home (🏠) buttons on the printer's touchscreen.
  5. While holding these buttons, plug the power cord back in.
  6. Keep holding the buttons until the "Engineering Menu" appears.

2. Perform the Reset

  1. In the Engineering Menu, navigate to:
    • Resets > NVRAM Reset (or OOBE Reset if available).
  2. Confirm the reset.
  3. The printer will restart and return to factory default settings.

Step 2: Enable the Network Card

After the reset, the network card should be enabled. If the Ethernet option is still grayed out:

  1. Go to Printer Control Panel → Setup → Network Settings.
  2. Select Restore Network Defaults.
  3. Power cycle the printer.
  4. Check if Ethernet & Wi-Fi options are now available.

Step 3: Set a New Admin Password

To prevent unauthorized changes, set up a new administrator password:

  1. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Connect the printer to a computer via USB or Ethernet.
    • Open a browser and enter the printer's IP address (found under Settings → Network).
  2. Go to Security Settings:
    • Navigate to Settings → Security → Admin Password.
    • Set a strong admin password.
  3. Lock Network Settings:
    • Go to Settings → Network → Advanced Settings.
    • Enable "Lock Network Settings" to prevent unauthorized changes.

  • If the Ethernet option is still grayed out, check the Embedded Web Server (EWS) settings.
  • If you still can't enable networking, the issue might be firmware corruption. Consider reinstalling the firmware from HP’s support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
