HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently had a few major issues with my HP PC tower that just went out of warranty. Not sure if this is part of the problem, however I am stuck getting a MS Win 11Pro Insider Preview update to install due to an inability to write the the system disk-of which that partition is full and I just wanted to try to get printing again since I have important documents to get printer and wanted to at least get that accomplished, which suffice to say has been anything but a horrendous nightmare just to do that. I had to do a factory reset after my printer mysteriously acquired an admin password. So Factory reset, uninstall then start with a clean slate (relatively) on which to reinstall everything. Everything went without any issues and it completed - saying my 9010s was installed and now ready to print.. I sent my documents to the 9010e.,.,., ..... ...... ...... efrustratingly nothing happened. It didn't even make its typical sick growling stomach noise. Just silence. After sitting in bewilderment for about 5 minutes trying to figure out what had just gone awry when I noticed under my many opened workspace windows an error box stating "Print Preview Failed."

At this point, ideas and a lilttle pat on the back to let me know that all is not lost - I know I'm  just missing something silly, like maybe a driver, maybe it's printing on the wrong port somehow or perhaps that sickly stomach growling  he 9010e makes as he springs to life is actually the delightfully entertaining to watch (as they plague anyone BUT you) yet scary and spiteful to my poor 9010e are nothiing more than a mated pair or trio of HP printer gremlins my high school teacher had warned me about - moving from the old table-sized playgrounds  of ye olde Okidata Dot Matrix Printer-san to my new chunky monkey et kinda spunky Officejet  Pro 9010e All-In-One, as they dine and feast on its inner workings lijke those pesky Mynocs from Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back fame as Han, Chewie and Leia worked feverishly to effect repairs to the Millenium Falcon before having to dash off in a hurry to keep from being eaten along with the Falcon.  Guess I can deal with a few gremlins here and there-- least they are only interested in my printer.... and not me.

Specifics: HP TP01-2xxx  AMD Ryzen 3 5300G with 16Gb or DDR3200 RAM OS: MS Windows 11 Pro 22H2 all drivers current including chipset,  NIC and Sound drivers are up to date.

Printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e All-In-One Series Printer connecting via 5G 1Gbit WiFi, as well as being connected via a USB Printer cable. No Network connectivity Problems whatsoever.

Error Response after Factory Reset and Reinstall (all HP Instant Ink Cartridges are new and full and using that super Bright heavy HP Printer paper getting an error Response of: "Printer Preview Failed"

ANYONE have any inkling as to that needs to happen to be able to print again??

Hi @ChaoticShade,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering a "Print Preview Error" after performing a factory reset or reinstallation on your HP Officejet 9010e All-In-One printer. This issue could be caused by a variety of factors, including software glitches, compatibility problems, or configuration issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Visit the official HP support website and search for your printer model to find the latest drivers, firmware, and software updates. Download and install any available updates to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can clear temporary glitches. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Print Settings: Make sure your print settings are configured correctly. Open the print preview settings and ensure that the paper size, layout, and other settings match the paper you're using and your desired print layout.
  • Clear Print Queue: If there are any stuck print jobs in the print queue, it might cause issues. Clear the print queue and then try printing again. On your computer, navigate to the printer queue settings and cancel any pending print jobs.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: If the issue persists, try uninstalling the printer drivers from your computer and then reinstalling them. To do this, go to your computer's "Devices and Printers" settings, locate your printer, right-click on it, and select "Remove device." Then, download and install the latest drivers from the HP support website.
  • Reset Printer Settings: If the problem persists, consider performing a full factory reset on the printer again. This time, pay close attention to the setup process and ensure that all settings are configured correctly during the setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am still encountering serious issues and I am beginning to think it was immediately after installing 22H2 that I began having issues (that was about the same time my HP PC Desktop dropped printer drivers and I have been unable to regain the ability to print at all from the 9010e.

Steps Taken Thus Far:

1)Uninstalled the print drivers that were not functioning, performing a factory reset on the 9010e, reinstalling the print drivers- Failed to Print ( thought it might have been do to a hanging Windows Update)

2) Fixed the Windows update issue that HP PC Tools failed to find/repair by a POOP LOAD of powershell commands to stop BITS, repair any problems with the MBR, complete a CHKDISK, Restart (say a prayer) Windows completed all updates

3)Repeated step 1 completely after Windows was fully updated, updated any outdated drivers for other devices I could hunt down (suprisingly- HP's PC Support Tools are NOT capturing AMD updates for the processor/on-chip graphics and inadvertently kept trying to install REALTEK sound card drivers, when this model only has a REALTEK Wifi NIC. 10/100/1000 NIC. Had to uninstall that mess and reinstall the AMD drivers as are supposed to be the sound drivers. AFTER 2nd 100% reinstall with everything on my HP PC fully updated and a 2nd factory reset on the 9010e... Still failed to print.

4) Decided to try to  connecting the 9010e to my HP Desktop via USB cable then once connected and set up connect the 9010e to the network so the 9010e could communicate with HP Instant Ink. Started with factory reset 9010em, after all print drivers were uninstalled, repaired and reset HP SMART app, did a Full software install of HP 9010e software which installed everything imaginable printer related it seemed, scanner drivers, fax drivers, connected the 9010e manually to WiFi for Instant Ink, recycled/rebooted both printer and PC after everything said Installation Successful.... Yep- STILL no print-ey nuffin sent from my pc (it was still printing just fine from my Android phones, oddly). **I know there wasn't anything wrong with my USB print cable as I had swapped it from another household HP printer/laptop set-up, so no- the cable functions perfectly on the other printer... so that's not the issue either.)

5) At my wit's end and last option before actually calling Platinum support to scream and holler (politely of course- it's not the tech guy on the other end of the phone line laughing maniacally as he flips the secret CANNOT/WILL NOT/JUST NOT GONNA print anything for you because you know... all tech people are psychic and can magically know the exact moment anyone, anywhere, and at any time knows when you hit that print button (as their beady, shifty eyes scan the nothingness of the white ceiling tiles above them and an immeasurable sense of glee is felt on my end when I say- almost sobbing now... it just hates me, I know it does because no matter what I do he just sits there and does nothing (he referring to the 9010e sitting at the edge of my desk) Ok, so this round I thought the only connection I have not tried it... WiFi Direct. Went through all that stuff, doing all those things, going through all those prompts I now have memorized verbatim.... and guess what??? Yup- STILL nothing,

I have now repeated the above steps in every possible sequence, connection option, software download option and have moved no further forward than I was a week ago when I noticed I couldn't print anything and my print drivers had been eaten by one of those gremlins that has moved now from my printer.... to my desktop.  I give up (throwing hands in the air right now)... time to call and prepare to hopefully get back to my 9010e working like he did when he first arrived at my doorstep.
