I have an HP 139 printer.  It was printing fine yesterday.  I am using USB not wireless for the last few months.  Yesterday I tried to print on both sides of paper and in the middle of a print the wireless button started flashing and the yellow exclamation point was flashing.  I have unplugged, reset, reinstalled 4-5 times.  It still is flashing.  I hit the wifi to turn off but the yellow exclamation point will not go away.  Windows and HP smart both say it is available but will not print.

Please help if anyone knows what the issue is.  I did try to connect to my wifi 3 times and it will not connect

I really do not want to use the Wifi as it prints too slow.

Hi @ssu11321,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP 139 printer. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve the flashing exclamation point and wireless indicator, and get your printer back to functioning properly:

Check for Error Messages:

  • Ensure that there are no error messages displayed on the printer or within the HP Smart software or the printer driver on your computer. Sometimes, the flashing lights indicate a specific problem that can be resolved by addressing the error message.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • Make sure the print queue is clear. Sometimes, stuck print jobs can cause issues:
    • Go to 'Control Panel' > 'Devices and Printers' > right-click your HP printer and select 'See what's printing'.
    • From the print queue, cancel all documents and try printing again.

Check the Printer's Status and Settings:

  • Since the issue started after attempting to print double-sided, check if there's a paper jam or any issues inside the printer that might have been triggered by the double-sided printing task.
  • Also, verify that the paper settings on the printer match the media you are using (e.g., size, type).

Hard Reset the Printer:

  • You’ve mentioned resetting, but ensure to do a complete hard reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power outlet.
    • Wait about 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the printer and the outlet.
    • Turn on the printer and check if the issue persists.

Disable Wireless Completely:

  • Since you mentioned not wanting to use WiFi, try to completely disable it from the printer’s settings menu. This can sometimes prevent the printer from attempting to connect to WiFi and focus on the USB connection.

Update Printer Firmware:

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Completely uninstall and then reinstall the printer drivers. Sometimes driver corruption can lead to issues like the one you're experiencing:
    • Go to 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' > 'Uninstall a program'. Find the HP printer software and uninstall it.
    • Download the latest drivers from the HP official website and install them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I tried all the steps and when I tried to connect to wifi it says it cannot connect to a 5g network.  I cannot get the wifi button to shut off nor get to the settings on the printer.  The screen shows HP flashing when it powers on then goes to something like NV or NU.  then the yellow exclamation and wifi button flashes again

I finally got this part working.  It wanted me to allow HP to query my printer - the WIFI and USB are both working, however, I want to set it to draft/econo mode but Windows does not show that option and neither does HP smart.  Please advise where I can change this setting.
