Hi there,
I would like to know why our HP2515 printer is printing less than the ad that says it could print a number of pages per cartridge. We kinda notice it and as in our count it only do +/- 50 pages per cartridge (vs. 480 in your ad) - we have set it to draftmode and is using a good quality paper (like HP paper and canon). yes it is a reliable printer and the quality is good, but its the ink maintainance cost that's killing us.
Do we need to have the printer calibrated? if yes, can you provide a service center in Manila, Philippines. The cost per cartridge is higher now than during the time we purchase it last February 2014 and it has been more than 3 years now - i know i have sent a inquery like this before but to no avail.
btw,
We choose this Printer from other competitor (epson, canon or brother) printer because of the ad. It is mostly use in my kids school assignments. And some occasional document printing (b&w) from my end. Please see photo.
Cheers!

Probably. Please look up the specs for these cartridge and post that information back here.
Also, if you could forgive me of my ignorance, i still dont get it with the computations you provided... my friend has his 2 no. HP1515 (same 678 cartridge for HP2515) printer yeilds more pages than mine (per printer) and he could do full color printing (and he has a small printing business - calling cards, customize bday cards, invitation cards, etc..), and he do not own a printer with tank, he just had 2 HP1515.
Also he told me when i sent him a sample of a colored print on draft mode/eco mode , i was told that the printer is not really printing in draft/eco mode and the printer is throwing too much ink. we also tried to tweak the photo to lessen the dark areas, but it still throws too much ink in draft/eco mode. That is why i ask if this can printer could be calibrated, that's his advise to me to bring back to where i bought it and have it calibrated.
We have this printer for almost 2 years, and we have not much complain on the performance, only in the ink consumption, well if nothing or no solution can be given - i might better donate it or sell it an just buy a HP with tank.

Are you using regular or XL cartridges? That makes a difference as the XL cartridges hold more ink. All I can do is give you the numbers to see if you are getting within the cartridge capacity. So far you are so there is no problem that I can see.
If you still think you have an issue you will now have to contact HP and talk with someone there.

Usually the school assignments, they have pictures & texts, we usually make sure that the picture size is small and is set to draft mode to save on ink. let say 30% of the paper space has ink.
I was once told that there are incidents that this printers needs to be calibrated to do what it needs to do.

Here is a chart to help with Ink Cartridge Page Estimation. All cartridges are based on a 5% coverage when new.
Note: A 5% coverage is about 6 single spaced lines of text on a page. No bold, graphics or pictures. A full color photo would be 100% coverage.
A ‘regular’ page of text would be about 72 lines and give us 30% coverage (more realistic). Don’t forget the font type and size you use will use more ink too.
Example: 564 Standard Black = 250 pages at 5% coverage.
Let’s say your average page coverage you estimate is 30%. So…250/6 = 41.
Therefore the number of pages expected (30% coverage) out of your cartridge would be about 40 pages.
A 564 Standard Color (300 pages) at 100% coverage yields – 300/20 = 15 pages.
*******
According to your ink estimate of 30% printing and photos, this estimate would be over 50% ink usage per page.
Your printer uses HP 680 regular cartridge which yields 360 pages at 5% coverage.
So here is your math.
360/10 = 36 pages. If you use the HP ad of 480 pages, 480/10 = 48 pages.
You are right on target.

Thank you for the replies you gave it was helpul in getting insights regarding ink consumptions. Just one last question, i've heard of the xl cartridge, but will it fit in the cartridge slot?
Cheers!
