HP Deskjet 3835
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

While in Israel I purchased the Deskjet 3835 printer for my mom.

http://www8.hp.com/emea_africa/en/products/printers/product-detail.html?oid=7172334#!tab=features

Back in the US, I noticed that the 3835 is not sold locally, but a printer that appears identical is sold here under the name HP 3830. The only difference I notice is that the 3835 requires HP 652 ink cartridges, while thew 3830 uses HP63 and HP63XL.

As far as I can tell, the 652 cartridges are sold only in a few places in the world, mostly in the middle east and Africa, and as such are more difficult to purchase

My questions are: are the HP 652 and HP 63 ink cartridges actually different from each other? would I be able to install a 63XL cartridge in the 3835?

Thanks,

Ron

The 63 and 652 cartridges are mechanically the same, but have different coding.  It *might* be possible to have the printer reset to allow the 63 cartridges, I am not sure this will work because the 3835 is not sold in the US.

You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.
