Hi @Daisy43 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4650 printer is printing red text as an unreadable yellow color, which could be caused by a few potential issues related to the printer's color settings, ink cartridges, or printhead. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check Ink Levels and Cartridges

  • Ensure that your ink cartridges are not low or empty, especially the red and yellow cartridges. Even if the red ink appears full, an issue with the cartridge or the ink supply might cause color misprinting.
  • If you haven't already, try replacing the ink cartridges with new ones, particularly if they are close to empty.

2. Printhead Cleaning

Perform a printhead cleaning. Sometimes, blocked nozzles can cause incorrect color printing. You can clean the printhead through the printer’s menu on the control panel or via the HP Smart app or printer software on your PC.

Steps for cleaning printheads:

  • Open the printer software on your computer (HP Smart or the HP Printer Assistant).
  • Look for a "Tools" or "Printer Maintenance" option.
  • Choose "Clean Printhead" and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Adjust Printer Settings

Make sure that the printer settings are correct. Check the color settings in the printer preferences, and ensure that you are printing in full color.

Steps to check:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the HP OfficeJet 4650 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Look for any settings related to color or color management. Ensure that it is set to print in full color and not using any grayscale or color adjustment features.

4. Update Printer Drivers

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Sometimes outdated or corrupt drivers can cause printing issues. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer.

5. Test a Color Print

  • Print a color test page to verify the accuracy of all colors (including red and yellow). This can help determine if the issue is with the printer’s color management system or just specific to certain documents.

6. Use High-Quality Paper

  • If you are using lower-quality paper, it might affect how the ink is absorbed and could cause color issues. Try printing on higher-quality paper to see if this improves the result.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
