I get an error to "remove and install the indicated ink cartridge" every time I print. I can sometimes lift the lid and close it and it will begin to print the current job. but the next job is the same error. It has been doing this for several days. No damage at all to the printer.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand you are facing a cartridge error on the printer. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
Follow the steps to resolve the issue-
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the power source.

Wait 60 seconds.
-
Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet. -
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
