The printer is connected via wireless to computer. The printer will print from the computer. When scanning, it won't draw the document into the printer, but does produce a blank document on the computer. The paper sensor is working - it produces a sound when paper is inserted. Obviously, the drive rollers in the lid are not running.
Is this something simple to fix?

@ruggb, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP 5255 AIO Printer's Paper Input Issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP 5255 All-In-One printer is not feeding paper correctly during scanning operations, here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Check Paper Feed Mechanism:
- Ensure that the paper is properly loaded in the paper tray. Make sure the paper-width guides are snug but not too tight against the paper stack.
- Verify that no paper is curled or wrinkled, which can lead to feeding issues. Uncurl any paper by bending it in the opposite direction of the curl.
Clean the Document Feeder Rollers:
- Open the document feeder cover and use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the rollers and separator pad.
- If residue remains, consider using isopropyl alcohol to clean the rollers.
Inspect and Clean the Scanner Glass:
- Dust or dirt on the scanner glass can interfere with copying and scanning operations. Unplug the printer, open the scanner lid, and clean the glass with a lint-free cloth and mild glass cleaner.
- Ensure you do not use cleaners that contain abrasives or alcohol as these can damage the glass.
Ensure the Cover is Closed Properly:
- Sometimes, improper closure can prevent the rollers from engaging correctly. Ensure both the scanner lid and any other doors are securely closed.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the reply. As I indicated, the rollers in the lid are not turning. Everything is closed properly. The paper never moves when the scan starts. The paper inserted sensor trips and a signal is heard. No noise is heard indicating gears are turning. The process completes with a blank file created on the computer. Everything is working except the paper feed.
What causes the gears to turn?
Is there a belt involved or is it a direct motor drive?
