I have a M553n printer that makes a grinding noise on the print startup.  There is no jam.  Print quality is good.  I don't know what part may need to be replaced.  It prints fine, just makes noise when grabbing paper from Tray 2 paper tray.  Suggestions?

Might be the pickup motor. You can run diagnostics that allow you to rotate individual components of the printing system to narrow down the cause.

  1. Press the HOME button.
  2. Press the down arrow to highlight Administration, and then press the OK button.
  3. Press the down arrow to highlight Troubleshooting, and then press the OK button.
  4. Press the down arrow to highlight Diagnostic Tests, and then press the OK button.
  5. Press the down arrow to highlight the Component Test item, and then press the OK button.
  6. Select the component test options for the test you want to run.
