HP 60 ink cartridge gives incompatible ink when used in regular DeskJet 2545 (USA)

I bought the HP DeskJet 2545 (HP DeskJet 2540 All in One Series) from Best Buy (USA) about 4 years ago, I have always been using the HP 61 ink cartridge with this printer but recently I bought the HP 60 ink cartridge as it was mentioned on the cartridge box that it was compatible with HP DeskJet 2545 but when I inserted the cartridges into the printer, and tried printing a document, it shows incompatible ink message. The cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and says "For sale in US and Canada" on its box and I still live in the US only. I never moved out of US and the printer has been in the US for the entire time and settings haven't been changed on this printer. 

Assuming the information on the ink cartridge packaging is not in error, why will it not accept this new HP 60 cartridge?

I have tried several  approaches to resolve the issue such as removing the cartridge and resetting the printer and also powering off the printer then powering it on again with no success. I tried to run the utility to clean the print head but still get the message that the cartridge is incompatible.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi,

An HP Deskjet 2540 printer only uses HP 61 ink cartridges.

HP 60 ink cartridges are used by an HP Deskjet D2545 printer which is an older printer model, the ink cartridge is not intended or can be used with your printer in any way.
