i am pretty sure my black ink has dried from lack of use.  The colors work OK.  I did everything the HP help info said including installing a new cartridge.  I cleaned the print heads with alcohol and also the ink ports on the cartridges.  Tech told me to run the print head cleaner function in HP Print and Scan Doctor about 20 times because the dried ink is probably inside the machine.  Nothing worked.  At first it was printing streaked black but now no black at all even with the full cartridge.  Yes they are HP cartridges.  Thoughts?

Hello,

I'd suggest you to perform Clean Printhead/Cartridge for at least 3 times from the printer front panel ( Setup > Tools ).

If issue still persists it could be because of faulty print head which is  fixed part in this printer., its time to go for a new printer.

thanks for the idea Jabzi,

I ran clean printheads three times as you said using the printer front screen and still no black ink.  On top of that, now my yellow ink is depleted.  So, after 20 cleans through my laptop and 3 directly through the printer screen I am afraid you are probably right, give up and buy a new #!@%^ printer.
