HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

HP 6798 Office Pro Printer. I am receiving error message "HP Printer Failure! 0x6100004a". It also says paper jam, but there is none. And, when I open up the printer the ink cartridge pack does not slide over so I can check the cartridges. I can scan, but not print.

If you have received and solved this issue, let me know.

Thanks!

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

  • Power Reset the Printer - Turn off the printer, unplug it from power, wait 2-3 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Obstructions - Open the printer and inspect for any paper or debris inside, even small scraps. If the ink carriage doesn’t move, gently try to slide it when the printer is off.
  • Reset the Ink Cartridges - If possible, remove the ink cartridges and reinstall them properly, ensuring they click into place.
  • Clean the Paper Path & Rollers - Even if there’s no visible jam, use a lint-free cloth to clean the rollers inside the printer. Dust or residue can trigger false jam errors.
  • Update or Reinstall Firmware - Check HP’s website for firmware updates and install them to fix potential software glitches.
  • Check Ink Cartridge Alignment - If the carriage is stuck, try manually moving it when the printer is off. Ensure the cartridges are seated correctly.
  • Try Printing a Self-Test Page - Use the printer’s control panel to print a test page and see if it processes any print jobs.
  • Factory Reset the Printer - If nothing works, reset the printer to its factory defaults from the settings menu.
