Hi @RxRBIi

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x6100004a on your HP OfficeJet 6978 typically indicates an issue related to the print carriage or a problem with the ink cartridges. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridges Again

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are correctly installed. Sometimes, they may appear to be in place but are not seated properly:
    • Remove the cartridges and inspect them for any protective tape or packaging that might have been left on.
    • Reinsert the cartridges firmly, ensuring they click into place.

2. Inspect the Print Carriage

  • Open the printer cover and manually check if the print carriage can move freely:
    • Gently try to move the carriage left and right. If it’s stuck, look for any paper debris or foreign objects blocking its path.
    • Ensure there are no torn pieces of paper lodged inside the printer.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a hard reset:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

4. Perform a Printer Reset

  • If the error persists, you can try resetting the printer:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Press and hold the # and 6 buttons simultaneously while turning the printer back on.
    3. Release the buttons once the printer has powered on.

5. Update Firmware

  • Make sure that your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or on the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
