I have a 7640 printer and am having the same problem as many others where there's an irritating noise when it's in standby mode...high pitch whirring. Others have posted it's a known issue with the power supply and the fix is an A9T80-60008 Rev: D "AC Power Adapter." Will HP please send me one? This is REALLY annoying.

@RAM031961, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Have you tried using an alternate AC adapter and check if the issue persists?
For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Disable IPV6
On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless > Advanced settings > IPv6 > Off
If the issue persists, resetting the printer to its factory settings may help.
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
- In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

That's unfortunate. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:
1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I did contact support. They said it was out of warranty and offered no part to fix the issue even after I provided the part number. They offered me a "deal" on a new printer but it was as much or more than I could have purchased the same printer at Staples.

@RAM031961 I'm afraid we don't have printer repair options, or part replacements available, if you feel you would get a better deal at staples, please go for it,
You can also, check for offers within HP by contacting us on Facebook or twitter using the HP Support page, or visit the HP store.
