HP Office Jet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi i recently purchased a HP 7740. I followed the setup options and installed the drivers etc. I feel really dumb right now but i cant print a document to A3. Obviously i have loaded Tray 2 with A3 Paper so thats not the issue. When i try to print to A3 it prints using tray 1 which is loaded with A4 Paper. I would have thought that the printer is smart enough to know that Tray 1 is A4 and Tray 2 is A3 and automatically choose the correct tray depending on doc size in whatever MS Office program you are using. I have tried looking in printer settings on the PC to manually choose tray 2 but there is no mention of it anywhere. I have also tried to use the touch screen to try and find tray 2 but there is no Print Shortcut like Copy and Scan.  I have tried to youtube the problem and look on the forums but cant find an answer. Feeling really dumb right now please help.

Hi,

Do you do duplex printing ? It only supports duplex printing A4, Legal; Letter; Executive, Ledger

Regards.

Sorry i dont understand your reply. Duplex Printing??  please read my problem again, im trying to Print A3 but i cant get tray 2 with the A3 paper to get selected and print on the A3 Paper. It always prints on Tray 1 which has A4 in it. How do i setup the trays so the printer knows which tray to pick when printing a document from a microsoft application like publisher.

Hi,

You can select the tray by

1. right clicking on the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer icon inside Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Devices and Printers and select "Printing Preferences".

2. When the Printing Preferences window pops up, select the Paper/Quality Tap.

3.  You can select the tray by clicking on the dropdown list in Paper Source under "Tray Selection". In your case, you can select Tray 2.

The same setting can be found under "Printer Properties" if printing from microsoft word.

Please use the the latest driver from the link below:

Hi @Brett_Wedge,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.  Apologies for jumping in here.

This resource will teach you how to configure the print settings such that it will pick from Tray 2 automatically when you have an A3 job.

Configure Print Settings on HP Officejet Pro 7740

Hope that helps!

Cool blue mentions A3 and automatic duplex printing in the same secion of specs.

I feel cheated.

WHY is that not possible?

I hate HP more and more.
