Hi @Windswept15,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP 7740 printer. When a printer stops printing and just spins, it can be due to a variety of reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer. Even a small piece of paper stuck inside can cause printing problems.
  • Ink or Toner Levels: Ensure that your printer has enough ink or toner to complete the print job. Low ink or toner levels can lead to printing problems.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Power it on and see if this resolves the issue.
  • Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, issues can be related to your computer. Restart your computer and try printing again.
  • Check Print Queue: If your print job is stuck in the print queue, it can prevent new jobs from printing. Go to your computer's print queue and clear any pending jobs.
  • Check Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it's a wireless printer, check the Wi-Fi connection. If it's a wired connection, make sure the cable is securely connected.
  • Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause printing problems. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your HP 7740 printer.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printing issues. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer and apply them.
  • Test with a Different Document: Try printing a different document or file to see if the issue is specific to one file or if it persists across all print jobs.
  • Printer Troubleshooter: Depending on your operating system (e.g., Windows or macOS), there may be built-in printer troubleshooters that can help identify and fix common printing problems. Use these tools if available.
  • Factory Reset: If none of the above steps work, you may consider performing a factory reset on your printer. Be cautious when doing this, as it will erase all custom settings, and you'll need to set up the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
