HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

My Officejet Pro 7740 suddenly stopped printing.  It also will not copy either.  Print/Copy order gets into printer, it setup ie makes proper noises then hangs blue circle spinning.

Hi @Wagonball,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is experiencing a connectivity or processing issue. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this.

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can often resolve temporary issues.
  • Check Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it's a wireless connection, check the Wi-Fi settings on the printer and make sure it's connected to the correct network.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can fix bugs and improve performance. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's settings menu or by visiting HP's support website.
  • Clear Print Queue: If there are any stuck print jobs, clearing the print queue might help. Go to your computer's print queue settings, cancel all jobs, and then try printing again.
  • Check Paper and Cartridges: Ensure that there is enough paper in the tray and that the ink or toner cartridges are not empty or improperly installed.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a reset on the printer to clear any temporary issues. This can often be done through the printer's settings menu or by powering it off and holding down certain buttons upon restart (refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions).
  • Check for Paper Jams: Even if you don't see a visible paper jam, check all access points to ensure there is no obstruction that could be causing the issue.

If these steps don't resolve the problem, it might indicate a more serious hardware issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden,  You obviously did not ready and digest what my problem is.   If I can't fix this its, I can only take it the dump.  I have done all the things you mentioned.  The fact that the copy function is also broken means its not a computer connection issue.  I have had and used this device for years.  I had just a successful print job moments before the printer failed to carry out next print job.

I have

powered down and up multiple times in different ways discussed by others

uninstalled and reinstalled the device

I  tried to reload the firmware (latest dated from May 24) but do not know how to force it since its the latest

I did get the printer to print out the WI_FI Direct Guide" from the control panel on the printer

I will re-iterate- print and copy commands are received by the printer, it makes the sounds indicative of carrying out the command.  The control panel says its is printing/copying but then hangs and does nothing.  No error messages, no other indications that the printer is in trouble - just nothing happens.  Just a spinning blue circle.

Obviously I am not the only customer that has happened too.  I have also not seen any response from HP for those reporting the same issue that has been helpful.

Just got off the phone with HP Tech Support - just to find out there is no support to be had.  HP will do nothing to fix my problem since they have deemed the printer I bought in May 2019 as obsolete.  HP not high on my list of equipment providers.
