Hello,

actually I have a problem with my HP 8500A printer. The printer is in a permanent printhead cleaning loop. Reset and so on does not solve the problem. A Solution was found here, but the detailed description of the solution is missing:

Many thanks for any information in advance.

Best regards

The printer does not store any user data apart from the printer settings and fax numbers. To delete this, let us reset the printer to factory settings.

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Tools > Restore factory defaults.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

@fmw3000, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to use the printer as it is stuck in a loop of cleaning the printhead.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Reinsert the ink cartridges too.

If this does not help, unplug the power cable and hold the power button down for 10-15 seconds and release it. Power on the printer and check.

If the issue persists, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

P.s: The solution given in the post attached is to replace the printer as this is a hardware issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Dear Kumar0307,

many thanks for your fast feedback. I performed the step you mentioned in your feedback, but the printer still keeps in the printhead cleaning loop. Therefore I think, there is might be a hardware defect as you mentioned.

If you have any ideas to fix this hardware problem by my own, please let me know. Otherwise I've to replace the 10 years old printer. From my side there is no sense for further repair costs.

Best regards.

The printhead cannot be repaired. If the printer was under warranty, HP would have sent you a replacement printer/printhead.

Replacing the printhead is not recommend as it may or may not resolve this issue and it would cost as much as a new printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Dear Kumar0307,

many thanks for your feedback.

Meantime I ordered new HP 9012 Officejet to replace HP Officejet Pro 8500A, because the warrenty time is already over.

One last question regarding the data security: How can I make sure, that there are no more privat data on the internal printer memory of the HP Officejet Pro 8500 A? Is there any function to clear the whole internal printer memory and delete all printjobs from the past?

Many thanks in advance.
