HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Bottom Line:  HP8600 Plus "forgets" home network credentials after any router re-boot, requiring manual re-connection.  What can I do to enable re-enable the AIO remembering network assignment.

My home router automatically cycles power to clear cache at 2am each morning.

Each morning I find my HP 8600 Plus sitting dumb in Sleep mode with no network connectivity until I manually re-connect using my specific network SSID and password or use the WPS connect option on my router.

My 8600 Plus is connected by USB to my work computer (no wifi printing allowed - company security concerns) and is Wifi enabled for my personal computers and assorted tablets / phones in the house that print wirelessly.

I don't recall this always happening (I've had this printer for several years)  but it happens every day now.  Every morning the AIO is sitting in sleep mode - waking up to print OK from USB connected work computers - but requiring a manual network connection step for anything else in the house to print.

I don't understand why the printer, in sleep mode overnight, doesn't remember its network settings once the router has re-booted (no network WiFI for 5-10 minutes).

Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing?  Doing WPS every morning (or manually finding and entering network password credentials) isn't awful - but don't understand why it has changed.  Is this really HP's design?

Thanks n advance to smart people out there!

Best regards,

Max

Hello - thanks for the suggestion - but when I downloaded the firmware file from the link you provided - the HP update appliccation said my Printer's firmware was current and it wouldn't install.

Do you have another suggestion?

Thank you!

Hello Barachiel - thank you for your attempts to assist.

Following your document - it lead me to download the HP Printer Troubleshooter (I had tried that myself earlier in my own troubleshooting - but ok).  The HP Printer Troubleshooter determined that I did not have the full 8600 plus software suite installed on this particular home laptop (not that THAT should have any impact on the Printer staying connected to the network - but it might improve things when printing from this laptop) - but I went ahead and installed everything and did a satisfactory test print.

This morning - after my router re-set during the wee hours - my HP 8600 Plus was again off the Wifi network and had to be manually re-connected for use.

To re-cap:

1. My router auto-resets (to purge cache) at 2am every morning - every other device in the house manages to remember to re-connect after the re-set except for my HP 8600 Plus AIO.

2. At your suggestion - I downloaded the lastest firmware for the AIO and attempted to install - but it wouldn't install as my AIO already has the latest firmware installed.

3. At your suggestion - I used the HP Printer Troubleshooter application to diagnose issues with my AIO.  It noted that the full 8600 Plus supporting software suite was not installed on my laptop - so I did that - and confirmed connectivity with the AIO.

4.  This morning - no change.  My HP 8600 Plus AIO was wirelessly off line and had to be manually reconnected to the network.

Any suggestions?  Is there anything to check on the AIO unit as far as settings to confirm it looks for the desired Network SSID when the Router broadcast returns after its re-set?  I USED to connect the printer by LAN wired connection - but now strictly using Wifi for home device connectivity (laptops, phones, tablets) with a concurrent USB "hard wire" to a single business laptop that doesn't permit local Wifi printing by corporate IT policy.  I guess I could try re-connecting the LAN wired connection to an available switch port - but was trying to reduce the number of wires laying around the home office.

I CAN continue to manually re-set the printer each morning - but I shouldn't have to in my opinion.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thank you,

Max

Try this.

Assign Manual IP to the printer:

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.
3) Open web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.
4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.
5) Go to the Network tab.
6) Click on Networking from the left pane.
7) Then click on Network Address (IP).
8) Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.
9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.
10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.
11) Click on Apply.

Refer to the video link for step by step instructions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnYyq80V9g

Note: The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.

Let me know. 🙂
