Hi @Cardiff2024

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this persistent issue on your HP 8600. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "improper shutdown" and "paper jam" errors:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset error messages.

Check for Paper Jams Again:

  • Carefully inspect all areas of the printer for any hidden paper jams. This includes:
    • The paper input tray
    • The output tray
    • Inside the printer (gently open the access door to check for any bits of paper stuck in the mechanism)

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Remove the ink cartridges again, then reinstall them, ensuring they are seated properly.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a hard reset:
    • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
    • Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait for 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
    • Turn the printer on.

Update Firmware:

  • Check for firmware updates on the HP website. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve persistent issues.

Clear the Printer Queue:

  • On your computer, go to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP 8600 and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any jobs in the queue that may be stuck.

Check for Error Codes:

  • If the printer displays any error codes (like "0x" codes), take note of them, as they can provide more specific information about the issue.

Try Using a Different Power Outlet:

  • Sometimes power surges or issues with the outlet can affect printer performance. Try plugging the printer into a different outlet.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
