I had the same problem that the other 11 reported. I was usiing Microsoft Word and got identical results with a newer version of Word- printing was on the wrong side of the envelope and the font was a mess. But when i used an older version of Word all those errors went away.

I hope that this helps.

Hi @WDG39,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 printing envelopes in the wrong orientation and with strange fonts could be related to compatibility issues between the newer version of Microsoft Word and the printer. Based on your observation, using an older version of Word resolved the problem, which suggests that the newer Word version might not be handling envelope printing settings correctly.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue with the newer version of Word:

  • Update Printer Drivers and Software: Ensure that the latest drivers and firmware for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 are installed. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the most recent updates.
  • Check Printer Settings: Verify that the envelope settings (size, orientation, etc.) are properly configured in both Microsoft Word and your printer settings. Ensure that the envelope is loaded correctly in the printer.
  • Use Word's Built-in Envelope Templates: If you're not already using them, try Word's pre-set envelope templates and make sure the size and orientation match your envelope. This could help prevent any misalignment or font issues.
  • Adjust Printer Preferences: Before printing, check the printer preferences for envelope printing, ensuring that it's set to the correct size and orientation for your envelopes.
  • Try Printing in PDF Format: Sometimes printing as a PDF can bypass formatting issues in Word. Print your document to a PDF file and then print the PDF using your printer.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the compatibility between the newer Word version and the printer may be causing the problem, and rolling back to an older Word version (as you've done successfully) might remain the best workaround.

Let me know if you'd like assistance with any of these steps!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Since the problem might be a change of the code in the newer versions of Word, could HP investigate this so BOTH old and new versions print envelopes correctly?
