I'm trying to print a photo on 8.5 x 11 photo paper but the printer will not feed the paper for the tray. Standard copy paper feeds without a problem. I dont find a spot for manual paper feed.
Suggestions/recomendations.
Thanks,
angwilla

Hey @angwilla,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to work with you today with resolving the photo paper feeding issues you're experiencing on your HP Officejet Pro 8620. However, I do have a few questions for you to start in order to provide you accurate troubleshooting steps.
1. What Operating System are you printing from?
2. What type of photo paper are you using?
3. Does the photo paper have a glossy or matte finish?
4. Does the printer try to grab the paper but fail to do so? This may result in an 'out of paper' message.
Because standard plain white copy paper feeds fine than what you're experiencing is either a print setting issue on your computer or the printer doesn't meet the specifications of your printer.
According to the specs for your product, the Officejet 8620 supports:
Media Types: Plain paper; Thick plain paper, HP Bright White Paper, HP Premium Presentation Paper, Matte, Other Inkjet Papers, Card Stock, HP Premium Plus Photo Papers, HP Advanced Photo Papers, HP Everyday Photo Paper, Matte,
HP Everyday Photo Paper, Glossy, Other photo papers, Other specialty papers, Other Greeting Cards, HP Brochure Paper 180g, Glossy, HP Brochure and Flyer Paper, Matte, HP Tri-fold Brochure Paper, Matte, HP Tri-fold Brochure
Paper, Glossy, Other brochure papers, Plain hagaki, Inkjet hagaki, Photo hagaki
Media Weights: 16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card)
Therefore, as long as your photo paper is within those specifications it should be just fine to print on. Also, always ensure that you're loading 1 type of media in your paper tray at a time. Do not load photo paper on top of plain white paper as the paper could 'slip' in the paper tray and cause error messages or jams.
First, let's make sure that you're loading the photo paper properly:
1. Insert the paper print-side down in the center of the tray.
2. Make sure the stack of paper is aligned and then inserted as far inside the printer as possible and does not exceed the higher line marking in the tray.
3. If the photo paper has a tab along one edge, make sure the tab is pointing towards the front of the printer.
4. Slide the paper-width guides in the tray until they touch the edge of the stack of paper, and then reinsert the tray.
Once you have ensured that your paper is loaded correctly, then on the computer you need to modify your printing preference settings to match the paper you're printing on.
1. On the File menu in your software, click Print.
2. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Properties may also be called Options, Printer Setup, Printer Properties, Printer, or Preferences depending on what program you're using.
3. Select the appropriate options for Layout and Paper/Quality. Under the Paper/Quality options you should be able to choose the appropriate Media from the drop-down list. Lastly, you may need to select Advanced to choose the appropriate letter paper size.
Once you have ensured that everything is set correctly, try to print!
Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your issue. Should you have further issues be sure to respond with the answers to my questions above. Good luck! 🙂

After and hour and a half on support and 3 people later, the last guy did it. All you have to do is run through
like 50 sheets of regular white paper through. Put a blank piece of paper up on scanner - set for 50 and hit copy in black. That apparently roughens up the rollers enough to grab the photo paper. Worked immediately after I did this.

Hi there,
there are 3 things to note when printing photo media on this printer:
1) Software selection
2) stack height of photo media (there is a sticker indicating the maximum stack height of photo media in the paper tray)
3) width adjustor. as you are printing to 4x6 photo media, do ensure the 2 width adjustors and 1 front adjustor of the paper tray are adjusted to the correct size.
Last but not least, ensure the paper tray is inserted fully, there will be a 'Click' sound when the installation is correct

Hope this helps.

The 8620 simply does not recognize HP glossy photo paper. It doesn't matter whether you set the media type or change the setting for second try. I did not try running through 50 sheets of paper to rough up the rollers. This printer dose not recognize glossy photo paper. My previous HP Photosmart AIO photo printer also had problems with handling photo paper and jammed 70% of attempts but worked sometimes. 8620 never works.
