Hello HP,
I bought this printer less than a month ago. Everything worked fine for the first week. Now 9/10 times it will not connect to my mac for printing. The cue will build up and it will say "This printer is not connected" and the que will say "printing - looking for printer".
I have already tried: deleting the software and reinstalling it, I make sure that the printer and the laptop are both connected to 2.4ghz connection, I unplug the the printer and turn it on and off (sometimes this works - but it is becoming annoying).
What else is there for me to do ?? I need this printer badly for my job and I am spending so much of my time trying to get it work, Please help!
Thanks
Sean

Hi @seanj17,
Hi! Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
As I understand that the printer keeps going offline and you have done preliminary troubleshooting.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer.
The message 'offline' displays as the status for a printer or the message 'Printer not responding' displays when attempting to print.
Offline indicates that the Mac cannot communicate with the printer. The offline message displays when the printer is powered off or a USB cable connection has become disconnected.
Step 1: Reset the printer.
Resetting power to the printer forces the printer to reset stored values in the firmware. A power reset can help when the printer is not accepting communication from the Mac.
-
Make sure the printer is idle, not making any sounds, before continuing.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button
to turn it on.
-
Try printing again and note what happens.

Keep me posted with the outcome.
Cheers! 🙂

Hello.
Thanks for responding . My problem is not that the printer is not connected to the internet though. It says that I have an excellent connection.. The connection to the wifi never varies. Neither does the connection on my laptop . Solid connection on both ends. However, they both dont link up and connect to each other. My laptop is brand new and updated. Is there anything else I can do ? I already reset the printer. Several times.
Thanks
Sean

Hi @seanj17,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I appreciate your time and efforts.
As the steps mentioned in the document did not help please try the below steps.
Step 1: Reset the print system.
CAUTION: Resetting the print system deletes all printers in the queue. This includes both HP and non-HP printers.
- Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.
- Depending on your version of OS X, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, then click Reset printing system.
- Click Reset in the confirmation window.
- Enter the Administrator name and password, then click OK.
- Wait for the printing system to reset. When complete, no printers should display in the list.
- Try installing the HP software again.
If the issue persists refer to this article and continue troubleshooting from Step 5.
Also, I would like to know the which version of Mac you are using.
Keep me posted.
Cheers! 🙂
