hp officejetpro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello community.

I have a problem with my HP Officejet Pro 8710, only 671 pages printed in total.

The printer works fine, prints and scans without issues. (Using network cable only, no usb, no wifi)

The only problem is: When i don't use the printer for 20-30 minutes the printer freezes with a white text error message on a black screen which says "Printer error - A problem occured with the printer. - Turn printer off and on again." (translated by myself from original german language error message shown on the actual display)  - When i turn the printer off and on again everything is working normal, until i don't use the printer for 20-30 minutes again and the same error message appears again.

It seems more like a firmware bug than an actual error itself.

I checked that the latest firmware is installed, which it was already (I had automatic printer firmware updates enabled;

Firmware Version WBP2CN2105AR ) - So perhaps this is a bug which occurs with the latest firmware only, because before the 2021 firmware was installed everything was fine.

I also did a hard reset (cut off power for 24 hours), but the problem persists.

Is it possible to make a firmware downgrade to the version before ? I guess this would fix this potential firmware bug...

The printer event log website shows following problems:

ID Event Description
37 69666 Firmware Error
35 69552 Printer Event
34 69666 Firmware Error
32 69552 Printer Event

Hi,

i have the same issue since ~1 week .

Printer works fine, but suddenly - mainly in the night - the display and die LEDs are flashing, and it is written that there is some error - please turn off/on the printer.

I had the same issue years ago - i think it must be a firmeware upgrade that causes this error.

Are there any comments from HP itself?

Regards

Clemens

Same here. Since some days my printer got a white screen and freezes. Mostly in the evening, sometimes in between. Pushing the power button retarts the printer but this freeze thing comes again and again. Very annoying. Wondering there is still no update to solve this issue.

Hi, same here. 😭

But as HP does nothing for us / doesn't even answer, i have just googled "How to Downgrade HP 952XL Printer Firmware" and found an older firmware for HP Officejet 8710. - I have just installed this older firmware and disabled automatic firmware updates afterwards. - Now i will see if the issue is gone / solved with the older firmware.

Error seems fixed:

But i have to mention just downgrading the firmware was not enough, i had to do a "semi-full reset" in the hidden service menu, too. (Press 4x times the "back"-arrow where you will find the "Support-Menu" with the "semi full-reset"-option). - Just asking myself if a "semi full-reset" (without firmware downgrade) would have also fix the reoccuring error message.

Back to topic: After firmware downgrade and semi-full-reset my printer is nwo active/online for about 6 hours without problems, so it seems issue is gone...

Hi,

i have done just a "semi full-reset" and now it works - no blinking LEDs - wonderful 🙂

Was your "semi-full reset" done with the problematic "latest firmware" or with the downgraded firmware?

Hi,

in my opinion a "semi-full reset" willl also fix the issue when done with the latest firmware installed.

So it is not a firmware issue, it's something other cause this behavior on the hp printers... - But a "semi full-reset" should do the job.
