HP OfficeJet Pro 8720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP 8720 printer goies offline everyday.  I have to reboot my computer each time to get it to work; needless to say a pain. The printer is set as the default but keeps going offline.  I have read that this is a widespread problem for this printer and HP needs to find a solution to this because this printer slows my productivity every day.  None of the solutions offered in the forum provides a permanent fix. The scan doctor fix is temporary as the printer will go offline shortly thereafter.

DEAR HP:  PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM AND SEND EVERYONE A SOLUTION! THANK YOU!

Hi @honolaw,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to print from your HP Printer as it keeps going offline.

This issue could occur if the pause printer or “use printer offline” option is checked in the printer driver settings.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here are a few steps listed below:

1. Turn the printer off and on, and then make sure it is in a ready state.

2. Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.

3. Find the icon for the printer you originally installed.

4. Right-click the icon for the default printer, and then select See what's printing. The print queue window opens.

5. Click Printer. If a checkmark displays next to Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline, click each item to remove the checkmark. Try to print.

Also, I suggest that you follow the steps in the link: Printer is Offline (Windows)

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you install the windows built in drivers by following the link: Windows Built-in Print Driver

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

This is not a permanent solution.  Following these steps given is good for EACH time this happens.  I need a more permanent solution or I'm taking the printer back and going back to Epson.

So I guess there is no solutions to this problem?  I have followed these instructions numerous times.  It does not stop the printer from going offline.  Do you have a permanent solution?  Can you correct this problem with some kind of software update?
