I do not accept the fact that I have to replace an empty yellow cartridge to print grayscale. This printer is effectively worthless. I haven't even done that much printing with the POS and several of the cartridges are empty. My black is full, brand new, I should be able to print grayscale. Totally worthless, overthought junk! SmartPrint, absolute joke. Gonna go to YouTube and blast this thing with a 12ga.

Hi @Oberst59,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

The printer requires replacing empty cartridges only.

Be aware that if other cartridges might be low, they might become empty once installing the new cartridges, during the printer preparation following a cartridge replacement.

Whenever you get such an error, click Hide and tap the top black bar on the printer screen, then click the Ink Drop icon and evaluate all 4 ink cartridges, be sure to have any empty or low ink cartridges available in hand.

Note: If your cartridge is depleted then you will need to replace the depleted cartridge to continue to print (b/w or color it doesn't matter)

You will not be able to print anything with depleted cartridges.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
