HP 9010

Hello,

I have an HP 9010 which I use almost exclusively for black printing. Problem is, every about one year the colour cartridges deplete (not due to use but due to getting old and being unused), which means I need to replace them to continue printing, even though I only need black.

Is there any way I can leave the colour cartridges empty and just use the black cartridge for printing?

Because otherwise its just not worth it financially ( its about 120 euros to change the cartridges every year), it would be better to just get a new printer...

Thanks

Chris

Hi @CK9010,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are facing issues with the cartridges.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer is designed to use both black and color cartridges for printing. However, if you want to print in black and white only and the color cartridges are empty or expired, you may still be able to print using just the black cartridge. Follow these steps:

Printer Settings:

  • Open the document you want to print.
  • Click on "Print" in the application you are using.
  • In the print dialog box, locate and select the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer.
  • Look for an option such as "Preferences," "Properties," or "Printer Settings."
  • Check for a setting that allows you to choose "Black and White" or "Grayscale" printing. Select this option.

Printer Hardware:

  • Open the printer lid to access the cartridges.
  • Remove the color cartridges if they are empty or expired.
  • Make sure the black cartridge is installed properly.

Print Confirmation:

  • Before finalizing the print job, check the print preview or print confirmation dialog to ensure that the document will be printed in black and white.

Keep in mind that some printers may still require functional color cartridges even for black-and-white printing, as the printer may mix colors to produce a richer black.
