My printer went offline a couple of days ago and would not print over wifi or through USB.  I launched Print & Scan doctor and noticed multiple entries, including one with the wrong IP address.  I searched the support forum and found the following suggestions.  I have followed the instructions below, and now have even more entries, still the wrong IP address, and still no print capability.

 

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features 
  2.  Select your HP Printer 
  3.  Select Uninstall 
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers 
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’ 
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo. 
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”) 
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab 
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom 
  10.  Select Ok 
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows 
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

I also deleted the HP folder under c:/programs.

@jhudgens I suggest you Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button . ...
  • Press the button next to Settings, scroll to Print Report, and then press OK.
  • Scroll to Configuration Page, and then press OK.

Setting a Static IP Address

Once you know your printer’s IP address, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:

HP Printer Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wireless.
  5. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  6. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  7. Click Apply.

The printer was already assigned a static IP address, so unfortunately this does not solve the problem.

@jhudgens Thanks for confirming that, here's a few other things that should help:

1.  Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box. 

2.  Choose “Printers & scanners“. 

3.   elect “Add a printer or scanner“. 

4.  Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it. 

5.   Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“. 

6.   select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list. 

7.  Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.  

8.  Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

I completed those steps and can now print.  Thank you. However, the printer now gives an error at the printer saying "Connect printer to the internet to update ink status" each time I send something to print and will not print until I clear this message.

@jhudgens Here's a list of steps that should resolve the issue completely:

  • Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    • NOTE: 
    • HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Update the firmware, and if the issue persists,

Please follow the steps below to disable the pop-ups:

 

1.      Press and hold the Windows Key, then press “R” to bring up the Windows Run dialog box. 

2.      Type “printmanagement.msc“, then press “Enter“. 

3.      Expand “Printer Servers“, then right click the name of the computer and select “Printer Server Properties“. 

4.      Select the “Advanced” tab. 

5.       Uncheck “Show Informational Notifications for Local Printers” and “Show Informational Notifications for Network Printers“.
