Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 9040 MFP and have successfully printed half a million copies with it. Then, all of a sudden problems with the computer interface. Scanner prints fine.

No Toner/Ink  message shows up. Does not respond to computer. The printer won't even store a job for later printing.

Ran HP Print and Scan Doctor. It said  Wrong Printer Port Configuration.  I went the through the steps of getting a new printer driver from the HP website and installed that. It did not help.

I have a new laptop. I did an initial installation of the printer onto a new laptop with Windows 10. 64 bit. It gives the same error, No Toner/Ink.  I suspect this is a Microsoft problem, it seems there have been several recent updates. But, that doesn't help me now. any suggestions?

Did you try to install Universal Print Driver PCL from hp.com

Additionally, ensure that if you are connecting via network that windows has not conifgured a WSD port for communication. Manually configure the port ensuring that you are using a Standard TCP/IP port.

That was how the driver was given its initial installation on the laptop just days ago. It should the No toner/ink message right off the bat.

I had seen WSD in the port listings and had no clue what it meant. Your post led  me to study up on it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to disable it. It seems that the menus posted by many on dealing with this do not seem to fit the menus on my computer.

Apparently, Microsoft made the WSD priority technology to make it simple for people to have a house with everything from lights to heating to surveillance controlled by a computer. The technology is designed to make new appliances hook up automatically. The fact that older printers can't handle it seems to be no concern to them, their long term agenda wants WSD for everything. Perhaps HP will need to modify their Universal Driver in order to make it more WSD compatible. In the meantime, I feel like a light weight non-boxer standing between two heavyweights slugging it out.

I will keep on trying to find something that works.
