I can't print at high quality -  I select it in the printer software (HP Smart) option box and click OK then get the message "Output quality was changed from High quality because of conflict with another printer setting"

Hi @TonyMandy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to achieve the best print quality and the settings won’t cooperate. Let’s figure this out together so you can get the high-quality prints you need.

  • Are you using specific paper or media types, such as photo paper or cardstock, that might require different print settings?
  • Have you checked if other settings, such as paper size or type, might be conflicting with the high-quality option?
  • Does this issue occur with all types of documents, or only certain files (e.g., PDFs or images)?

Let's try these steps.

Check for Paper and Quality Compatibility

  • Ensure the selected paper type in HP Smart matches the actual paper loaded in the printer.
  • High-quality settings often require premium or photo paper; mismatches can trigger conflicts.

Adjust Advanced Settings in Printer Software

  • In the HP Smart app or your printer driver, go to the Print Settings menu.
  • Look for Advanced Settings or Printer Properties and manually adjust the DPI (dots per inch) to the highest option (e.g., 1200 DPI).
  • Disable any auto-correct features like Paper Save Mode or Draft Mode, which might override quality settings.

Ensure Consistent Paper Size Selection

  • Confirm that the selected paper size in the software (e.g., A4, Letter, or Wide Format) matches what’s loaded in the tray.
  • Mismatched sizes can cause the software to reduce quality to ensure compatibility.

Update Printer Firmware and Software

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for the latest firmware for the OfficeJet Pro 9720e.
  • Also, ensure the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version to avoid bugs.

Reset the Printer Settings

  • Reset the printer to factory defaults:
    • Access the Settings menu on the printer’s touchscreen, navigate to Printer Maintenance, and select Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Reconfigure the printer in the HP Smart app and test again with high-quality settings.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
