Example: PageWide Pro 577dw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently replaced the magenta ink cartridge in my HP PageWide Pro  577dw with an extra high yield cartridge (976YC). To my surprise, the printer said it was not compatible! I looked online and noticed there are two versions of this cartridge (976Y and 976YC).  I'm not sure what the difference is. Any ideas? I found a 976YC cartridge for sale at Office Depot and in the description there it said it WAS compatible with the 577dw.   So is it actually compatible, as Office Depot says? If so, any idea why it's not working?

I hope there's a way to make it work.  My printer's out of commission until I get this resolved.

Thanks for any help!

EDIT:  The exact message the printer is giving is:

"the indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer".

I hope someone can shed some light on this.  Thanks.

Valsimot, thanks so much for the response. There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around about this.  The bad news is now have to purchase a new cartridge.  But at least I now know what to get!

Btw, where did you find that information? I searched for compatibility info on the HP 976YC but found very little (and what I did find was apparently wrong).

Thank you again.

But you need to search by HP part number, it's written on the package ( or even on the product itself) if you still have a package, if not you need to search part number on google.
HP 976YC will found 0 results when you search by part number  L0S29C you will find all devices that can use that part number.

Ok. I didn't realize I needed to use the part number. Good to know!

Thanks again for all your help.
