HP Business Inkjet 1200 D
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When i Moved HP Business Inkjet 1200D from Windows VISTA 64bit to new Windows 10 64bit, the printer works OK but the option for AUTOMATIC DUPLEX is gone.

I've looked under PROPERTIES, SETTINGS, ADVANCED, etc.,

Windows search returned " DRIVERS ARE UP TO DATE"

I am stumped.

The default for the HP Business Inkjet 1200 seems to be the duplexer is "not installed".  You need to do the following (just once) to enable it:

  • Go to the Devices and Printers folder, right click on the Business Inkjet 1200.
  • Select Printer Properties
  • Select the Device Setting tab.   Under the "Installable Options" tab select "Duplex Unit (for two-sided printing)", select Installed, Apply, OK.
  • Close all printer dialog boxes.  When you reopen them the duplex printing option will now be available.

I have this same issue after moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10.   But the Duplex Unit options are grayed out and will not let me change it to Installed.

Is there something else to do to let me use the duplexer?  Perhaps a different driver?  I could not find a specific driver for the HP Inkjet 1200, so I have just the Windows one.

The options may not be available for a standard user.  You might try checking the Security tab, make sure the settings for "Everyone" include Print, Manage this printer and Manage documents are all set to Allow.

You may need to make the initial settings using an account with Administrator privileges.

Thank you very much.   You were correct that "Everyone" did not have authority for "Manage this printer."  I couldn't figure out how to change that, but what did work for me was to run "Print Management" and from there I could select the printer and on the device setting tabs set the Duplex Unit to "installed."  It now works for me.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
