Two years ago the  hp photosmart B210a  printer and hp photosmart Premium Fax  e-All-in-one printer stopped working due to the chip download to my printers preventing non-hp ink, resulting in  error message 'Ink-system failure'. I have just replace the printhead but the printer asked for setup ink, even though I bought hp original ink.

I visited hp site with the view of purchasing setup ink that is required to no avail. I can't remember which of the 'reset programs' I had attempted. I would be most grateful for your assistance in getting my printers back online.

Thank you.

@Educators

Welcome to HP forums.

Try these steps on both printers.

Clean the ink cartridge and printhead contacts

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • A clean, lint-free cloth

    • A clean, dry cotton swab

    • Distilled or bottled water

         CAUTION:

Do not use tap water, platen cleaners, or alcohol because they might contain contaminants that can damage the contacts.

  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.

  3. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

  4. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  5. Press the tab inward on the front of the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull up on the ink cartridge to remove it from the slot.

  6. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then clean ink cartridge contact.

  7. Place the ink cartridge to the side with the contacts facing upwards.

  8. Carefully reinsert the ink cartridge into the correct colored slot, and then press down on the ink cartridge until it clicks into place.

  9. Repeat these steps for other ink cartridges.

  10. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Reset the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

    NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

I am very grateful for your helpful response. However, the main issues are missed. I had carried out the procedure referred to in your response and when it didn't work, the advice was to purchase a new printhead. It is with regard to the circumstances where this 'new printhead is requiring 'Setup Ink Cartridge', and not the original hp ink cartridge for setting up the hp photosmart  premium Fax  e-all-in-one printer C410.

I would be most helpful if I could learn form the Forum how to bypass this process, in the light of the fact that the printer was origanally  setup and now has a new 'printhead'.

Please, please assist me to get my printers back in working conditions. Thank you.
