I have a HP Photosmart C5380. Suddenly from working 100% the yellow won't print at all. I've replaced the cartridge three times...still no good. I've cleaned out the cartridge holder...still no good. Replaced ALL the inks (5)...still no good. Aligned, cleaned printheads, status report...didn't help. Any suggestions? . [Personal Information Removed] Thanks, John.

Hi @JOHNMACG,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are facing issues with printing in color. I'd like to help!
Are you using Hp genuine ink cartridges?
Since you mentioned that, you have tried cleaning print heads, I want you to go through the document here and see if you have followed all the steps. If the issue still persists then it could be a hardware issue.
Let me know.

Sorry...I don't know what happened to the LONG story I'd written...it just disappeared off the screen. So, here we go AGAIN! I've been using generic inks for many, many years and have no complaints...always getting glorious coloured prints. I have gone through every single test on the machine: align, status and quality reports, clean printheads, etc., plus thoroughly cleaning the ink cartridge holder. I replaced the five cartridges (3 coloured, plus black, and photo black). Still no good. Then I replaced them all with a brand new lot...the same. It's only the yellow which is playing up. The printer has only printed off 224 pages, so it hasn't been 'done to death'. I hope that someone out there can come up with an answer. Regards, John.

Hi @JOHNMACG,
Thanks for your reply.
Update the printer firmware-
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third-party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which are refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Sorry...downloading the firmware to get my HP C5380 to work properly didn't work. It looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new printer. And hope that it does everything the present one does...like print on printable CDs or DVDs. My backup, which is an earlier model (a C5280), has just packed up as well. It won't print at all...even after replacing the inks twice. I think that someone up there hates me. Regards, John, South Australia.
