Hi,

Let's make sure we are talking about the same error. I am getting a service error 79 and the printer continuously reboots. To let the printer complete initializing and be in a stable state you must take the printer off the network. Disconnect any network cables and turn off the wireless transmitter You should have enough time to do this before the printer restarts with the error.

Hope that helps

For the Mac guys out there: why don't you use the FTP or USB methods? They are OS agnostic, I used that method on Ubuntu Linux, for example. FTP works identically in any OS.

PS: for changing settings, try the web interface (http://192.168.1.18/hp/device/set_config_networkAdvanced.html?tab=Networking&menu=NetAdvanced) (change the IP to your printer IP)

Thanks!  I'm going to see if I can figure out how to do that!

I am now getting errors re: the firmware being valid

How are you getting your printer to stay "on" long enough to do anything?

Clear out any print jobs you have, thats the first thing.  I have been connecting to the computer through Direct Wifi and that seems to allow it to get to 90% before I get an error.

@Bear048 The firmware is not OS dependent (it does not matter if you have MacOS, Windows or Linux) if using either the USB or FTP. What makes it Windows or Mac specific would be if you're using the "auto installer" (.exe or .dmg) which is the one thing that HP removed and now no one can find it. The video mentions the use of a .bdl file which I've seen listed on HP's FTP repository for other printers but for ours there is only an .rfu file. Here is HP's ftp repository from where I downloaded the firmware file I used from my Linux machine to downgrade my firmware using the FTP method:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/pfirmware/

Rocco16V,

Thank you for making that clarification, and I understand. My apologizes to anyone I may have caused any confusion. The key here is if you are using the alternative method of USB or FTP to get the machine code. Make sure you read and understand Rocco16v's explanation as you attempt to find a path forward for your particular solution.

P.S. I have operated all day successfully on the latest firmware disabling IPv6 as a work around. If anybody has third party toner and this work around is viable, I am sure the group would appreciate if you would let them know.

Thanks
