I am looking for someone with HP 4700dn printer to make me a CF card image so I can flash it using windows or linux.  I am unable to buy the CF card with firmware as I am on a remote island and is impossible for me to get it shipped here in months time.  So I am looking for any member of HP community to help me out here.  I have the CF card from the printer that I have by mistake formated in FAT format and lost the ability to initialize the CF card inside the printer to be able to hex edit the firmware from the site to transer it over to linux.  I have found and read all of the instructions on here and know how to do it but I am not able to initialize this CF card as it requires Lynx realtime operating system file system.   So I am desperate for someone to make me a image raw copy of the firmware so I can transfer it over to my CF card.

Thanks a lot!

I have nothing readily available, but will check around when I have a chance.

If you want I created an image of CF card from CLJ4730 ( that's multifunction CLJ 4700)  using DD command in Linux.

Maybe you will be able to initialize that CF to work in CLJ4700.

Thanks a lot for this but the size is over the limit of 32MB for this CF card for 4700dn pritner so I don't think it will work I try dd it said out of space then i checked your image is 65MB

I would appreciate if you can make image when you get a chance  as I am really stuck here

@Valsimot - actually even tho it did not transfer everything because out of space I was able to get the display to fire up with the memory countdown so it looks like its a good start -  it was totally dead before on the display - I guess I need someone to make me the 4700dn image as you did and I think it will work -

after the countdown while holding menu for 10 seconds I was able to see select language and to cold reset but then it continues with the booting process with error I guess because it did not transfer the full firmware  -  its a good start I guess

I was able to get to initialize disk from using your image but now I am looking to follow this instructions but need firmware version 08.260.1 I can't find anywhere to try to flash it with the command he suggests here https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Archive-Read-Only/Bricked-HP-LaserJet-4250-After-Failed-Firmw...

skipping first bits.  I tried hexediting new firmware but it did not work - so my two hopes now are to find 08.260.1 firmware or 4700dn CF CARD IMAGE.

thanks for your help

Ok I was able to make it work with this approach

1. Flashed your 4730 firmware even tho it did not fit on CF card I was able to get to initialize disk this was crucial i think

2. Found older full firmware https://www.dropbox.com/s/5t9dur8wlbzpouj/drive-download-20170726T213556Z-001.zip?dl=0 here and used hexeditor under linux to delete the first part until ...$ sign

3. Flashed hexedited firmware to CF card

4. Worked! Surprise booted to Ready screen

5. Printing

Will make a backup of this image from CF card and post it here in a bit.  What command did you use under linux to backup the full image from CF to .image ?  I am under popOS

That's an amazing effort and quite a good job you did to make the printer work.

I used the dd command it was something like:  dd if=/dev/sda of=4730.image
