HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw
Microsoft Windows 11

I have HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw‎
When I am printing on a single side it works.

Printing on both sides it gives a new error (just after warranty expired, interesting).

Print failure.
If error repeats turn off and then on.
Press [OK] to continue.

Needles to say I restarted the printer.
Removed all cables for and press On for 20 seconds and reconnected.
Update the firmware.
Reinstalled windows drivers,
Print from iPhone

Nothing works and HP support is non-existing.
I try to get a number to talk with but I am redirected to Samsung Printers (???) in USA even though I start
with my registered printer on HP site in Israel.

Hi @Obi_1_Kenobi,

Thank you for your response,

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw is experiencing a duplex (double-sided) printing issue, potentially linked to the printer's duplex unit or internal settings. Since you've already tried several key troubleshooting steps (restarting the printer, reinstalling drivers, updating firmware, and printing from different devices), here are a few additional things to check or try.

Printer Settings:

  • Check the Duplex Printing Option: Ensure that the double-sided printing option is enabled properly in the print settings. Sometimes, the option may reset after a firmware or driver update. Here's how:
    • Go to "Printers & Scanners" in Windows.
    • Select your HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw and click Manage.
    • Go to Printing Preferences and ensure that duplex printing is enabled under the “Finishing” tab.

Clean the Duplex Unit:

  • Dust, debris, or paper jams in the duplex unit (where double-sided printing occurs) can cause such issues. Open the printer's duplexer and check for any debris or stuck paper.
  • Use compressed air or a soft cloth to clean the interior if necessary.

Reset to Factory Defaults:

  • If the issue persists, try resetting the printer to its factory default settings:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
    • This will reset all settings to default, and you will need to reconfigure your network settings afterward.

Disable Duplex to Test:

  • Temporarily disable duplex printing and try a multi-page print job in simplex (single-sided). If that works without error, the issue may indeed be tied to the duplexer mechanism.

Manual Duplexing Workaround:

  • If you still encounter issues after troubleshooting, you can try manual duplexing as a workaround:
    • Print the odd-numbered pages first.
    • Reinsert the pages and print the even-numbered pages.

Paper Type and Size Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper type and size in the print settings match the paper loaded in the tray. Sometimes incorrect settings can cause printing failures, especially with duplexing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
