HP Photosmart D6160
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello everyone, i am trying to setup an old printer to work with my PC. the printer in question is HP D6160. initially, it was not being recognized by windows at all, no matter what i do, so i installed drivers for it from some sketchy website, only then did i see it in the printers tab on windows

when trying to print a test page, or, anything for that matter, the power button blinks once. the printer has paper and i believe the cartriges have ink in them.

Hi @jarquavis28dest,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that your printer is not printing. I'd like to help!

As the printer is old and the OS is new, it would cause the compatibility issue.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver) for help

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

please see the attached image too, i got this while browsing a solution from elsewhere

removing the printer  from windows then plugging in the printer into the computer, letting windows set it up (the "your device is set n ready for use") also doesnt solve my issue.
